Point me to the Water Cooler!?

Is Face Book  and social medias the “water cooler” of today’s office life? With virtual work and telecommuting, are we missing out on the “water cooler” benefits of a working environment?

As a virtual assistant, I work alone most of the time, interacting with clients via telephone, email and Skype.  It’s quite possible for me to work all day, seeing no one both my family who lives in my own home.nhga6

According to Better Homes & Garden’s Sept article “Total Recall” (paraphrasing) – Research shows that people who are social throughout the day tend to have better executive functioning skills and working memory. Every 10 minutes of conversation, non-work related, have been seen to boast memory and thus productivity.

Definitely food for thought!  What do you think? Maybe my next cup of coffee should be enjoyed during a 10 minute chat.  I would love to hear your take.  Comment, let’s get the memory boast / conversation started!
