You can’t hit a moving target.

Before I enter into a relationship with a new client, I ask about their company goals. I want to know if they have a specific direction they want to go with the business, because I know as a good Executive Administrative Manager, I can help them move toward that target.

I was talking to a potential client recently, and he was being very “wishy washy” about his goals. At first, I thought maybe he wasn’t ready to share them with me for some reason, but as I actively listened, I realized that his goals were not firmly set. He had an idea of what he wanted to do with his business, but he didn’t have anything definite.

That got me thinking about an archery class I took a few years ago. Right after my divorce, I tried to take a class or do some activity that would be “outside my norm” each month. So one perfect weatherwise spring day, I went to an archery range and I attempted to shot a basic bow and arrow. By the end of the 2-hour session, I could consistently hit the target, even close to center a few times.

However, that target was firmly placed on sign planted in the ground. It didn’t move, or even sway in the wind. I could hit the target because I knew where I was aiming each time I pulled back the arrow. I couldn’t have hit the target if I didn’t have a clear vision of where I wanted the arrow to go.

If your business goals are swaying in the wind or moving constantly, because you haven’t firmly planted them into the ground, it’s going to be nearly impossible to hit them. You need a clear vision of where you need to focus your efforts and energy.

If you haven’t set goals for 2025 yet for your business, what are you waiting on? If you have wishy-washy goals, and you’re not sure how to make them clearer, let’s talk about them.

I am not a business or life coach, but I have trained a lot in mentorship and accountability coaching. I also love to help people. If you need someone to actively listen and ask questions, reach out.

What’s your Q1 or 2025 goal and how can I help you move toward it? Do you need introduced to someone specifically? Need a tip for managing your time better?
